Our classrooms are designed for multiple age mixes (birth - 18 months, 18 months - 3 years, 3-6 years, 6-9 years.) This allows the younger students to learn from the older students and the older ones to reinforce what they know by assisting younger students.

Our infant community at Montessori Children's Center is for babies birth to 18 months. The focus of the infant program is to foster the development of basic trust and to assist the emerging personality by supporting the developing sense of self as a unique and separate individual.
Currently, our infant classroom is in a separate building located at 219 Peace Boulevard. Proudly serving families in St. Joseph, Michigan and surrounding communities.

When toddlers feel a sense of personal power (I can affect things) are they ready to move to the next critical task of realizing a sense of competence (I can achieve things). This is a crucial step out into the wider world as active learners and problem-solvers. Through competence, children develop genuine confidence and a sense of who they are in the world.
You can explore our Montessori toddler daycare options that are carefully planned to promote exploration, independence, order, and freedom of choice and movement. While it’s strategically organized with defined learning areas, it is open to allow plenty of room for social interaction and activities required for growth and development.

In this program the children are ready to begin exploring the world of Montessori, however many may not be socially or academically ready for an academic based Montessori Program. The students will be introduced to their first lessons, socialization and a variety of practical life activities. Children will have constructive play time, snacks and outdoor time, but they will have the opportunity to continue working with Montessori materials, all under the guidance of certified Montessori teachers. Lessons and projects will include some of the children’s favorite subjects including science, art, music, dramatic play, sensorial, math and language. These programs will help the children develop their concentration, coordination, confidence, order and independence. Emphasis will be placed on learning the ground rules, socialization skills, conflict resolution skills, cooperative play, care of self and respect for others and their environment.

Primary 3-6 years / Kindergarten
This program is designed to advance the learning that happens in Montessori preschool during the child’s Kindergarten year. While preschool class has academic possibilities which carry the child well into the elementary level, the developing attention span and growing curiosity of kindergarten-aged children is often met by a longer day with more involved learning activities. Older students are given the opportunity to learn from more advanced academic work which will prepare them for the elementary level. Reading and math skills are refined through the pursuit of not only cultural objects and science but also sensorial activities and lessons. Special attention is given to the children for readiness for successful transition into the first grade. In addition to reinforcing their academic knowledge, this experience enhances their self-esteem and develops their self-confidence which enables them to try new challenges in later learning. In the Kindergarten Year, students will also be introduced to our Spalding Program which is an intensified reading, writing, spelling phonetic program. The students will also participate in an advanced Spanish program.

The Spanish class begins with Spanish greeting, prayer, and a greeting song all in Spanish. The children learn to look at the calendar, seasons, months, colors, shapes, and count in Spanish as well. During Spanish Class, the children begin to write words in Spanish by looking at a tangible object.
